Encounters with God screws up your math.

But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.” (Luke 19:8)

Not just, “I’ll give it all back.”

No.

“I’ll give back four times what I took.” Four times! That’s 400% repayment. Way more than what anyone would seek in interest.

The thing is, God’s grace and compassion overwhelm accounting practices. There’s no tit-for-tat. There’s no, “you did this so I’ll do that.” There’s just life-altering grace upon grace. The kind of love and mercy that makes otherwise hardened men to ridiculously generous things.

Numbers don’t lie. But, sometimes, they don’t matter.

It’s God Math.
